After a delay in production due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, Severance is scheduled to make a comeback “soon,” with speculation that it may hit AppleTV by the end of the year.
While we prepare for the nail-biting psychological thriller to return, we’re taking a closer look at Scott’s surprisingly healthy eating habits, which help him strike a balance between his busy acting career and personal life.
Table of Contents
A balanced start to the day
Scott kick-starts his mornings with a nutritious blend from Daily Harvest, a plant-based food delivery service best known for its frozen smoothies, grain bowls, soups, and flatbreads.
“I just try to start the day usually by making a Daily Harvest smoothie,” Scott recently told GQ. “If I put a couple of scoops of peanut butter in that smoothie, then I’m good until lunch.”
His favorite smoothie flavors include almond, vanilla, banana, and greens as well as chocolate blueberry. By adding peanut butter, Scott not only enhances the flavor but also boosts the protein content, ensuring he has sustained energy throughout the morning.
The Sweetgreen lunch routine
For lunch, Scott frequently opts for Sweetgreen, a quick-service chain known for its healthy, customizable salads. His go-to order? The Harvest Bowl, which features roasted sweet potatoes, apples, roasted almonds, wild rice, shredded kale, and a balsamic vinaigrette. Scott modifies the bowl by removing the sweet potatoes. To make this salad more reminiscent of bygone favorite the Hollywood Bowl—which featured halved grapes—Scott further modifies his order to include raisins. While he orders his bowl with chicken and dairy feta cheese, we’d make it fully plant-based by swapping out the chicken for tofu and adding in plant-based feta.
The perfect snack: ants on a log
As it turns out, Scott is a bit of a raisin fanatic. On the Severance set, Scott discovered that the perfect snack is one that harkens back to childhood: “ants on a log.”
This classic high-protein plant-based snack involves celery sticks topped with peanut butter and raisins, providing a combination of protein, crunch, and sweetness.
“This season on the show, I kind of figured out what the perfect snack is, and it’s been hiding in plain sight all of these years,” Scott said. “I believe what that perfect snack is ants on a log.”
His assistant Nancy often prepares this snack for him, making it a convenient and mess-free option during busy filming days. Scott also loves the simplicity of snacking on cashews while on set.
Best on-the-go snack: dried mango
Scott is also a big fan of dried mango and cannot live without Just Mango slices from Trader Joe’s and single-serve bags of organic dried mango from Whole Foods.

“You really can’t go wrong at Trader Joe’s. Their dried mangoes are great,” Scott previously told New York Mag. “I’ve also recently been getting into the ones that Whole Foods has, where they put a bunch of smaller bags of dried mango into one big bag, I guess to divide them up for kids’ lunches.”
Scott advises that those who prefer smaller pieces of mango—as opposed to the larger slices at Trader Joe’s—should opt for the Whole Foods version. This love for dried mango highlights Scott’s inclination toward convenient and healthy snacks that are easy to carry and enjoy on the go.
How Scott finds balance
In addition to his starring role as Mark Scout in Severance, Scott has appeared in many recognizable shows, including NBC’s hit series Parks and Recreation, HBO hit Big Little Lies, and Starz sitcom Party Down.
The 51-year-old actor is also making his directorial debut in Double Booked, a film about a self-help writer who finds himself at a weekend retreat of horrors—which he announced days after he finished filming Severance.

How does Scott find balance amid his busy schedule? Flexibility is key. When it comes to dinner, Scott’s routine is less structured, varying based on his schedule and availability, a philosophy that extends to his workout routine.
Maintaining fitness amidst a busy filming schedule can be challenging, but Scott has found a routine that works for him. In Los Angeles, he trains with a personal trainer three times a week.
“I can’t say that I stick to it as often as I’m supposed to,” the 51-year-old actor said. “I’m tired. I gotta get some rest.”
